Description
Kesultanan Bacan adalah suatu kerajaan yang pernah wujud dalam Kepulauan Maluku yang muncul dengan perluasan perdagangan rempah-rempah di akhir abad pertengahan. Kerajaan ini ditubuhkan di Makian tetapi kemudiannya kerabat rajanya melarikan diri dari bencana letusan Gunung Kie Besi ke pulau Bacan. Kesultanan ini salah satu dari empat kerajaan utama Maluku (Maloko Kië Raha) selain Ternate yang utama, Tidore dan Jailolo. Pengaruh kuasa kerajaan Bacan terdiri dari Kepulauan Bacan yakni Bacan, Kasiruta, Mandioli, dll tetapi juga pengaruh berkala di Seram dan Kepulauan Raja Ampat hingga ke kawasan rantau Papua Barat moden; malah banyak ketua suku di wilayah Waigeo, Misool yang terletak di Raja Ampat dan beberapa daerah lain sempat berada di bawah administrasi pemerintahan Kesultanan Bacan.
