Description
[Fictional Group] Keppel Trading Company was founded in 1771 by Alexander Keppel as a merchant enterprise operating throughout the American colonies and Atlantic trade routes. Originally established as a commercial venture, the company soon found itself serving the interests of the newly formed United States during the American Revolutionary War. Though not originally intended for combat, several Keppel Trading vessels were armed to deter British privateers and naval patrols operating along major trade routes. As the war intensified, a number of these armed merchantmen were separated from the company in 1777 to form the independent Keppel Privateering Company. The Keppel Trading Company became well known for its skill in blockade running and long-range transport operations, preferring to avoid direct confrontation whenever possible. Nevertheless, its vessels remained capable of defending themselves against enemy ships when necessary.
