Description
The Falklands War was a 10-week conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdom in 1982 over the Falkland Islands, a British overseas territory in the South Atlantic. Argentina, claiming sovereignty, invaded the islands on April 2. The UK responded by sending a naval task force to retake them. After intense land, sea, and air battles, British forces regained control on June 14, forcing Argentina’s surrender. The war resulted in over 900 deaths and had significant political consequences, including the fall of Argentina’s military government and a boost to British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s leadership.
