𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 The Bear Flag Republic, officially known as the California Republic, was formed from a rebellion that took place when a group of American settlers and discontented Californios in Mexican-controlled California declared independence from Mexico. The rebels, inspired by the growing tensions between the United States and Mexico, seized the town of Sonoma and raised a flag featuring a crude bear and a star, which earned them the nickname 'Los Osos,' the Bears.
