Description
[United States Legation in Joseon] In 1894, with the outbreak of the First Sino-Japanese War, the safety of foreign legations in Hanseong (modern-day Seoul) was at risk. In response, a small detachment of U.S. Marines was temporarily deployed to guard and protect the American legation.
