Kavаleriyskiу Korpus #35710582
Description
During the Patriotic War of 1812, the Cavalry Corps of the Empire (the Cavalry Corps) took an active part in the battles. This unit was the elite of the Russian cavalry, and the command kept it in reserve, sending it into battle only in extreme cases. Under Borodino, the corps under the command of Levenwolde distinguished itself at a critical moment, during the third French attack on the Raevsky Battery. Despite the death of Colonel Levenwolde at the very beginning of the battle, the Cavalry Guards attacked French cavalry and defeated them. The regiment lost 14 officers and 93 lower ranks in the battle. In the Battle of Polotsk against Marshal Saint-Cyr, the Cavalry Guards once again distinguished themselves by saving the almost completely lost battle.
