After the Anti-Cession movement in Sarawak in the late 1940s, which opposed British colonial rule, there was a growing sentiment among the local population to preserve their cultural heritage and autonomy. This movement laid the groundwork for the establishment of political groups that aimed to protect Sarawak's unique identity and historical ties. The Heritage Party of Sarawak emerged in the early 1950s to champion these ideals, focusing on the interests of the Brooke family and the monarchy.
