[1860s] Confederate States Navy #35772338
Description
𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎: When the Civil War erupted, the Confederacy found itself at a severe naval disadvantage, with virtually no existing fleet. Southern leaders scrambled to establish a maritime force from scratch, facing the daunting challenge of building a navy capable of breaking the Union's tightening grip. The Confederate Navy, despite limited resources, demonstrated remarkable ingenuity throughout the war. From commerce raiding to harbor defense, these naval forces became crucial to the Confederacy's survival. By 1862-1863, they had pioneered revolutionary technologies like ironclads, deployed mines (then called "torpedoes"), and commissioned commerce raiders that threatened Union shipping worldwide.
