Description
In 1871, friends Winston and Andrew founded the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Amsterdam Linj (Amsterdam Steamship Company Line), revolutionizing transportation in the city. In 1873 their first ever vessel, the P.S Van Houten set assail enroute for Rotterdam. From there the line became known to the public, The line was known for it's routes inside of the Netherlands. In 1892 Stoomvaart Maatschappij Amsterdam Linj began expanding into nearby ports, setting sail for the Ports of Hamburg, Le Harve, and Cherbourg. With their new vessel in the plannings it would be new for the Amsterdam Line to have such modernized vessels Stoomvaart Maatschappij Amsterdam Linj continued into the roaring 1940's before closing.
