Description
Omerta = the code of silence. Origin: Italian, from Sicilian Mafia culture. Literally means "manliness" or "honor" but in practice it means "don't snitch." The 3 rules of omerta: Don't talk to police/authorities about the organization or its members Don't cooperate with investigations - even if you're arrested or threatened Handle disputes internally - no outside courts or cops Break omerta = you're labeled a "rat" or "pentito". Historically the penalty was death.
