Description
During World War II, Finland fought in two major conflicts: the Winter War (1939–1940) against the Soviet Union and the Continuation War (1941–1944) alongside Germany against the USSR. In the Winter War, Finland fiercely resisted the Soviet invasion, inflicting heavy losses but ultimately ceding territory in the Moscow Peace Treaty. The Continuation War saw Finland regain lost land but later face Soviet offensives, leading to the 1944 armistice and territorial concessions. In the Lapland War (1944–1945), Finland expelled German forces from its territory. Despite hardships, Finland preserved its independence, unlike many other nations caught between the great powers.
