Rooted in the maritime heart of Amsterdam, it is the epitome of commercial coordination and economic diplomacy. Unlike more colonial ventures, the N.T.C. focuses on grand-scale commercial ventures, import-export management, merchant guild cooperation, and overseas markets where diplomacy is favored over force. Their merchant captains are diplomats as much as traders, representing the sophistication of Dutch commerce abroad.
