🌿🕊️ 𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐆𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐎 𝐃𝐈 𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐑𝐈 𝐀 𝐏𝐈𝐄𝐃𝐈 🕊️🌿 The regiment was established in 1806 after the French Invasion of the Bourbon Kingdom of Naples; by decree, the regiment was intended to be the sole "elite" infantry formation of the new Kingdom modeled directly after that of the French Imperial Guard Grenadiers. The regiment was the only from the period of 1806-1808 to be modeled after the "new" or Napoleonic model compared to that of the regular army. Recruitment was primarily targeted at French veterans, both those from the regular army, and those from the Imperial Guard; Italian service within the Grenadiers was not allowed until the reforms of Joachim Murat in 1808.
