Description

The Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia, also known as the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia or simply the MPDC, is a force of over 3,000 municipal peace officers that serve the federal land of the District of Columbia. The duties of the MPDC are to uphold both local and federal laws and to investigate crimes against these laws, to ensure public safety and respond to emergencies, to work with the community in a way that creates positive change, and to ensure safety on roads under their jurisdiction. The MPDC works with many fellow law enforcement agencies across the area of federal land. This includes the United States Capitol Police, the United States Park Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. They partner with these agencies—and many more—to ensure the safety of citizens living within their jurisdiction and to support the smooth functioning of the federal government.
