Description

The United States 2nd Armored Division, famously known as “Hell on Wheels,” was one of the most powerful and successful armored divisions in the U.S. Army during World War II. Activated in 1940, the division played a major role in the Allied campaigns across North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, France, Belgium, and Germany. Its combination of tanks, armored infantry, artillery, engineers, and other support units allowed it to move quickly, break through enemy defenses, and exploit breakthroughs. During the Normandy Campaign, the 2nd Armored Division fought in several major operations, including the breakout from the Normandy beachhead and the rapid advance across France. The division later played an important role in fighting German forces during the Battle of the Bulge and continued advancing into Germany in 1945. Known for its aggressive tactics, speed, and strong combat record, the 2nd Armored Division earned its place as one of the most famous American armored formations of World War I
