Description

The cohors germanorum was an auxiliary cohort formed by Augustus (then Caius Octavianus) in 41 BC and lasting until 68 AD. While the Praetorians are generally regarded as the main bodyguard of the emperor, members of the German cohort were the closest to his side. They were commanded directly by the emperor and not under the oversight of the praetorian prefects.

Growth

Growth history is still building. We hold one measurement for this entry. A trend needs at least two, taken days apart — so this will fill in on its own rather than being estimated. We do not publish numbers we have not measured.
