O Ducado de Palmela foi um título nobiliárquico do Reino de Portugal, criado em 1833 por D. Pedro IV em nome da rainha D. Maria II. Foi concedido a Pedro de Sousa Holstein, um influente diplomata e estadista que já possuía os títulos de Conde e Marquês de Palmela. Defensor do liberalismo e do constitucionalismo, o 1.º Duque de Palmela teve papel central nas Guerras Liberais e na consolidação da monarquia constitucional portuguesa. A família Sousa Holstein, à qual pertencia, tornou-se uma das mais poderosas da nobreza portuguesa, destacando-se pela sua atuação política e diplomática ao longo do século XIX.
