Description
Baltic sailors ("the pride and glory of the Russian Revolution") were sailors of the Baltic Fleet, active participants in the Russian Revolution and the Civil War in Russia. At the early stages of the 1917 revolution, they predominantly held extremely left-wing political views; they supported the Bolsheviks, left Social Revolutionaries, and anarchists. Disagreement with the single-party dictatorship imposed by the Bolsheviks led to an armed uprising of the Kronstadt sailors in 1921. After the suppression of the uprising, the Baltic sailors, as an independent political force, ceased to exist.
