Description
𝐃𝐮𝐜𝐡𝐲 𝐎𝐟 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐲- The Duchy of Normandy, established by the Treaty of Saint-Clair-sur-Epte between Charles the Simple of West Francia and Rollo, leader of the Vikings, in 911, evolved into a significant feudal lordship within medieval France. By the 1300s, the duchy had grown in power, owing allegiance directly to the French crown. Renowned for its formidable knights and robust military tradition, Normandy played a pivotal role in the politics of medieval France. The capital, Rouen, was a thriving economic and cultural center. The Normans were known for their fusion of Norse pagan traditions with Roman Catholicism, which shaped the region’s unique cultural and religious landscape. As a vassal of the French crown, Normandy was often at the heart of the power struggles and military campaigns of the period, its knights ever ready to assert the duchy’s interests within the realm.
