While primarily a stalwart militia safeguarding villages and maintaining order in the polity’s tribal assembly, they also played a pivotal role in Pyrrhus of Epirus’ campaign against Rome. When Taras sought aid against the rising Roman Republic, the Politofylaki formed from dwellers to protect their homeland, leveraging their expertise in skirmishing and guerrilla warfare to support his forces in key battles like Heraclea and Asculum. ▬▬▬▬ ☀ ▬▬▬▬
