In the south side neighborhoods of Chicago, where blocks can feel like their own worlds, PGF short for Psycho Gang Family started less like an organized crew and more like a tight circle of kids trying to survive what was around them. Back in the early 2010s, a few teenagers grew up on the same streets, dealing with the same pressures underfunded schools, broken systems, and constant tension between neighborhoods. They weren’t thinking about being a “gang” at first It was just loyalty watching each other’s backs. Making sure everyone got home safe. The name “Psycho Gang Family” came later, partly as a reputation thing. People on other blocks started calling them “psycho” because of how fearless or reckless they seemed when defending their territory. Instead of rejecting it, they owned it PGF became a label that meant you were part of something bigger than yourself, for better or worse.
