Description
The Lanciarii Gallicani later Lanciarii Honoriani Gallicani was created by Diocletian. It was created from a detachment of Legio III Gallica Severiana Alexandriana which had men from Syria-Phoenice that had been serving in Gaul; with all later recruitment happening in Gaul. As the name states, all members of this legion were armed with the lancea (thrusting and a throwing spear). It also had a cavalry element of mounted lancers with members called Ippeus Lankiaris. The legion would later between 395 and 423 AD get the name-piece of Honorius like the rest of his regiments. They were always part of the mobile army of Gaul. By the 5th century, this legio comitatenses is stationed in the Diocese of Gaul under the command of the Magister Peditum Praesentalis and the Magister Equitum Per Gallias, Later in 407 AD, it would support the insurrection of Constantine III, moving to his headquarters at Boulogne-sur-Mer. The legion would until in the late 5th century, when it was disbaned
