Description
The Iovii Cornutii later the Numerus Ioviorum Cornutorum Seniorum was raised by the Tetrarchy. It was created from part of the whole Cornuti which consisted of tribesmen and warrior groups from Schleswig, Jutland, and elsewhere in Denmark; that had been sent to serve in the East. Later recruitment would continue for a in the aforementioned places as well in the in the Danubian provinces (Dioceses of Dacia and Macedonia) to some degree, later switching to locally enlisting in Asia Minor. The unit would seemingly take part in Diocletian's campaigns on the Danube, Euphrates, and Nile; with it being honored with the name of Jove. Little is known on its service history would continue to serve in the East. By 356 AD it was stationed at Eskisehir in northern Phrygia in central Asia Minor (Diocese of Asia?). By the 5th century it was stationed in Asia Minor under the command of the Magister Militum Praesentalis II. They would continue to exist likely until sometime in the 6th century.
