Description
The phrase "Ruckle Stift" combines Old Norse "hrukka" (to wrinkle) with Old High German "Stift" (foundation). Originating in 13th-century Scottish-English border monasteries, it described the careful folding of religious vestments in abbey storage. The term evolved from this specific practice to mean any methodical arrangement or systematic organization, eventually becoming colloquial for meticulous preparation before important tasks.
