Description
The Marine Corps International Affairs Program (IAP) identifies, trains, and manages Marines as regional, cultural, and language experts, known as Foreign Area Officers (FAOs) or Regional Affairs Officers (RAOs). They serve in political-military roles to support security cooperation, embassy duty, and strategic planning, enhancing alliances and aiding military operations. Regional Expertise and Culture (LREC): The program develops deep understanding of specific global regions to support security cooperation and intelligence. Foreign Area Officers (FAO): Marines specializing in a specific region, fluent in its language, and trained to work in embassies or strategic staff. Regional Affairs Officers (RAO): Marines with regional expertise, but not necessarily language proficiency. Personnel Exchange Program (PEP): Participants embed with foreign military units to foster international partnerships.
