Description
Motto: “In Utrumque Paratus” (Prepared for All Situations) 2 South African Infantry Battalion (2 SAI) is a motorised infantry unit of the South African Army, specialising in the deployment of infantry forces using military vehicles to provide mobility and operational flexibility. Established on 1 January 1962 at Walvis Bay, the battalion developed a distinctive history shaped by its service in the arid terrain of South West Africa and its involvement in the South African Border War. The unit participated in Operation Savannah in Angola in 1975 before being disbanded in 1989 following the end of the conflict in the region. It was re-established on 1 July 1993 at Pomfret, drawing on former members of 32 Battalion, and subsequently relocated to Zeerust in the North West Province in 1998. Today, 2 SAI forms part of the South African Army’s Infantry Formation, carrying forward a legacy of adaptability, mobility, and readiness for service.
