Description
𝐑𝐄𝐆𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐄-𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐓𝐄 Légion belge · Belgian Legion In 1864, about 1,500 Belgians volunteered to guard Charlotte, the daughter of King Leopold I, who had just become Empress of Mexico. They formed a regiment of two battalions: the "Impératrice" grenadiers and the "Roi des Belges" voltigeurs, led by Lieutenant-Colonel Alfred van der Smissen. Sworn to Emperor Maximilian and serving under the Mexican flag, the Belgians campaigned in Michoacán. They were beaten at Tacámbaro in April 1865 and struck back with a victory at La Loma that July. The regiment was disbanded in December 1866 and sailed home the next month. Enlist by joining the communications and pinging an officer.
