Description
During the American Revolutionary War, the French Army (Armée Royale de France) joined the war in 1778 to support the American colonies against Britain. They sent an expeditionary force under Rochambeau that fought alongside George Washington’s troops. Their most important role was at the Siege of Yorktown (1781), where French land forces and navy helped trap the British and force their surrender. The French Army was professional, well-disciplined, and especially strong in artillery, making it a key factor in the American victory.
