Description

The Staff Corps of Cavalry, commonly known as the Provost Corps, was a unit that was raised during the Peninsular Campaign by the Duke of Wellington to enforce discipline and bring wrongdoers within the British Army to justice when the forces present were rife with ill-disciplined and criminal men. Beyond serving as enforcers of military law, the Corps was sometimes tasked with escort duties as well as other staff roles. On other occasions, the Corps could act as a combat cavalry unit, though this was not their main duty and was rarely acted upon. The Corps is the only combat-effective force that is able to maintain a presence in civilian cities as well as military fortresses. Additionally, they are the only unit within the British Army permitted to detain and sentence subjects of the United Kingdom (provided they have valid evidence and have followed proper procedure to do so). Major-Commandant of the Staff Corps of Cavalry: N/A
