Description
This group is for people who live near LIRR's trains or are a fan of them. LIRR used to have GP38-2, FA, C420, and many other good locomotives but then bought EMD's DE30AC and DM30AC engines. They also have bombardier M7 and M3 (M3 had replaced the M1) electrics running on the line. The route is shared by New York and Atlantic Railway for freight service. The NY&A transfers with CSX, P&W, and CP at Fresh Pond and transfers with NYNJ at Bay Ridge. Today, the LIRR is changing. Kawasaki M9's will be replacing M3's. Some of LIRR's MP15AC's used for MoW and other services are rotting. The Circus Train no longer comes, with the end of the Ringling Bros. circus. As for the NY&A, most locomotives will be replaced by new Progress Rail locomotives For each engine brought in, an old one has to be sent back to its original owner. Along with East Side Access, Mid-Suffolk yard, and the double tracking of Ronkonkoma, a new era arises. If you wish to be in the rank 'Railfanner/Local', just ask.
