Description
동굴부대의 최고 지휘·관리 기관으로서 육군본부를 설치하고, 그 임무와 조직, 운영에 관한 사항을 규정함을 목적으로 한다. 육군본부에는 본부장(육군참모총장)을 두며, 본부장은 육군 전반을 대표하고 육군본부 예하부대들을 지휘·감독한다. 본부장 아래에 차장(육군참모차장)을 두어 본부장을 보좌하며, 필요시 본부장의 직무를 대행한다. 육군본부는 부대를 실질적으로 관리·통제하며, 육군본부 예하부대를 총괄한다. 육군본부는 군을 최고 통솔하는 "국군통수권자"의 명을 준수하고 따른다.
