Description
Whonix is an operating system built specifically to enforce strong online anonymity by design, rather than relying on user behavior. It works by separating your activity into two isolated environments. The “gateway” component is the only part that connects to the internet, and it routes all traffic through the Tor network to preserve anonymity. The “workstation” component is where applications run, but it has no direct internet access everything it does is forced through the gateway. This separation reduces the risk that a compromised application could break anonymity by exposing identifying information like your real IP address. In more technical terms, Whonix uses virtualization and network isolation to ensure that all outbound connections are anonymized and that there are no accidental leaks. Even if malware runs inside the workstation, it cannot bypass the gateway to deanonymize you.
