Members of the 501st fought in the Grand Army of the Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the Battle of Geonosis. During the reign of the Empire, the 501st Legion was nicknamed "Vader's Fist," and became Vader's personal battalion; among their known engagements were the Battle of Hoth.
