The Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (abbreviated to SHAEF) was the primary headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force operating in Western Europe during the Second World War. It was formed in December 1943, and following Germany's defeat in May 1945, it was soon dissolved in July of the same year. The main countries making up the Allied Expeditionary Forces were: - United Kingdom - United States of America - Dominion of Canada - Free France Other countries include governments-in-exile whose countries had been occupied (such as Czechoslovakia and Poland), as well as commonwealth countries such as Australia and New Zealand.
