19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment #4153973
Description
19th Indiana Infantry The 19th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment was formed in Indianapolis, Indiana and was part of the infamous Iron Brigade. Serving everywhere from Second Bull Run to Cold Harbor, the 19th Indiana was a force to be reckoned with. It was the 19th that, along with the rest of the Iron Brigade, covered General Pope’s retreat from Bull run, preventing a disastrous route for the Union Army. The regiment also participated in the Battle of Gettysburg, serving as part of the defense of Culps Hill. Eventually in 1863, the 19th Indiana was merged with the 20th Indiana Infantry Regiment. In all, the regiment suffered 316 casualties.
