The Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Vietnam (Vietnamese: Bộ Quốc phòng Việt Nam Cộng hòa, often “Bộ Quốc phòng VNCH”) was the cabinet-level ministry responsible for national defense in South Vietnam during URV era. Core role: It organized, built, and managed national defense and—acting under the President / supreme commander—directly directed the armed forces through the military chain of command, especially via the Joint General Staff (Bộ Tổng tham mưu) and the major units (corps/branches, regional and local forces).
