Description
The County of Lincoln was established in 1838 following the Frontier Settlement Act, which organized the rapidly growing communities surrounding the Greenwood Valley. Early settlers were drawn to the region by its dense hardwood forests, abundant freshwater, and fertile river basin, creating one of the most prosperous agricultural and logging regions in the territory. Throughout the mid-19th century, Lincoln County became known for its timber industry, flour mills, and railroad commerce. The construction of the Greenwood & Western Railway in 1867 transformed the county into a major transportation hub, allowing local industries to flourish and connecting rural communities with expanding markets.
