Description
The Arcanum is Caliban’s ancient and exclusive guild of mages, scholars, and ritualists. Though they do not hold castles or command armies, their power lies in the control and codification of magic, through study, tradition, and enforcement of arcane law. They are not a faction, but a neutralized order, recognized across all territories as the custodians of magical knowledge and its proper use. From the forges of Arkwin to the forests of Thaloria, all who practice magic know: unlicensed sorcery is a crime, and the Arcanum remembers all transgressions. The Arcanum was born in the final days of the First Crown, when unregulated spellcraft caused wars, plagues, and mass destruction. The worst of these, the Firestorm of Darkwald on 9/1, incinerated three noble houses in one night. In response, a conclave of the greatest minds formed a pact, binding magic to law.
