Braunschweigisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 92 #445426686
Description
The 92nd Infantry Regiment, from the Duchy of Brunswick, carried the proud legacy of the Black Brunswickers. This volunteer force was founded by Frederick William, the Duke of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, who is famously known as the "Black Duke." These soldiers inherited his name and fierce spirit, along with a determination to resist and battle Napoleon that became their trademark of sorts. Their black uniforms and the fearsome Totenkopf, or death’s head, symbolized both their history and courage. The regiment was officially formed on 1 October 1815, created from battalions of the Black Brunswickers who survived the very taxing and deadly Napoleonic campaigns. Over the years, the regiment reorganized to fit into the Prussian army, but it never lost its distinctive character. Each battalion was easily recognizable, as each wore black dolmans or coats that recalled their origins.
