L'Inquisizione di Asmara nasce nel 1970, concepita fin dall'origine come l'unità d'élite segreta di una certa organizzazione. Mentre questo gruppo costruiva la sua facciata pubblica, l'Inquisizione fu creata per operare nell'ombra. Il suo reclutamento era severo: vi entravano a far parte solo gli elementi più abili al soldo dell'organizzazione. Il loro mandato non era la gestione ordinaria, ma l'intervento diretto in caso di disaccordo. Erano la risposta decisa del gruppo alle minacce esterne: il loro compito era occuparsi dei gruppi rivali e, al contempo, neutralizzare elementi ostili all'interno delle autorità.
