5th Line Battalion; King's German Legion #4588138
Description
5th Line Battalion; King’s German Legion. Raised in 1803 the King’s German Legion fought as part of the British Army in all theatres of war available. After their initial campaign in Hanover, the Legion went on to fight in Pomerania, Copenhagen, Walcheren, Spain, Portugal, Low Germany, Ireland, and Southern France. They were considered as good as the best British Units, their Cavalry dominating the French in Spain. During the Battle of Waterloo, the Legion as a whole distinguished itself, most of them placed in and around the farm of La Haye Sainte, held it to the last cartridge, and almost the last man.
