2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry #4619775
Description
2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment Following the call for volunteers in 1861, the 2nd Wisconsin was mustered into service with 1 051 men. Part of the famous “Iron Brigade”, it distinguished itself with high casualties in the 1862 Northern Virginia and Maryland campaigns. It’s finest hour came on the First Day at Gettysburg where the regiment would defend Mc P h e r s o n Ridge and delay the Confederates long enough for reinforcements to secure Seminary Ridge; losing 77% of its total strength in the process. It would continue to serve with distinction in the Overland Campaign before being mustered out in 1864.

Growth history is still building. We hold one measurement for this entry. A trend needs at least two, taken days apart — so this will fill in on its own rather than being estimated. We do not publish numbers we have not measured.
