Description

𝕳𝖊𝖗𝖗𝖊𝖓 𝖛𝖔𝖓 𝕻𝖑𝖊𝖙𝖙𝖊𝖓𝖇𝖊𝖗𝖌 𝐻𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑃𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑔 𝐴𝑛𝑛𝑜 1502 The House of Plettenberg was a Westphalian noble house. Over time the family split into multiple lines, including one that settled in Terra Mariana, becoming a Baltic-German noble house. Wolter von Plettenberg, the most famous of them, was born at Meyerich Castle. In 1494, he became the Landmeister in Livland and defeated in 1502 a numerically superior army of the Muscovite Grand Prince Ivan III in the Battle of Smolin. In 1525 he was raised by Emperor Charles V for himself and his successors to the rank of an Imperial Prince with seat and vote on the imperial diets.
