Description
The Dutch Gold Coast is a Dutch overseas colony located along the Gulf of Guinea. Established through the expansion of Dutch trading posts during the 17th century, the colony is administered by a Governor based at Elmina and serves as an important center of trade, commerce, and regional administration. While the coastal forts and settlements are governed by the Dutch authorities, the inland regions remain under the rule of independent African kingdoms and local chiefs, who maintain diplomatic and commercial relations with the colonial government. The colony is defended by the Royal Netherlands Army alongside locally recruited African troops, known as the Korps Afrikaanse Jagers (Corps of African Riflemen), who serve in the protection of the forts, settlements, and trade routes, ensuring peace and stability throughout the Dutch Gold Coast.
