THE KINGDOM OF ALBA | The Kingdom of Alba emerged during a time of blood and iron, forged from the desperate unification of the Gaels (Later Scots) and the Picts. As the Great Viking Army and Norse raiders shattered the established coastal defenses, these two distinct cultures were forced to merge their crowns to survive the onslaught. Under the leadership of figures like Kenneth MacAlpin, the kingdom transformed from a collection of fractured tribal territories into a unified Gaelic-speaking powerhouse. Centered in the fertile lands of eastern Scotland, Alba became the final highland bastion against the expanding Norse influence, characterized by its rugged hillforts, intricate stone carvings, and a warrior elite determined to hold the line against the longships.
