The Byzantine Empire, the continuation of the late Roman Empire, was centered on trade and military conquest. In due time, the Byzantines formed a Greek-speaking Orthodox nation that had the backings of the Romans and the Christendom: the true successors to the Roman dominion. - In this sign, thou shalt conquer.
