The Alemanii are an alliance of tribes that formed in the early 3rd century AD from: Semnones; from the area between the Karkonosze/Giant Mountains and Frankfurt An Der Oder and Potsdam in Brandenburg and Lusatia Hermunduri; from Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt, Upper Hesse, and Franconia Quadi; from western Slovakia, northern Lower Austria, and Northern Hungary Marcomanni; from Bohemia and Moravia Juthungi; from north of the Danube and Altmuhl Rivers in Franconia They met in the Main Valley region in northern Bavaria and southern Hesse, then moving into southwest Baden-Wurttemberg and Alsace forming Alemannia. In 455 AD they would expand into Bavarian Swabia, German-speaking Switzerland, Lichtenstein, and Vorarlberg. Their supremacy stretched form the area around Mainz and Wurzburg in the north, the foothills of the Alps in the south, Regensburg to the east, and the Swiss Plateau and Aare River in the west. Alemannia existed until the 6th century when it was added to the Frankish Empire.
