Description
The Kamakura Bakufu was established in 1192 by Minamoto no Yoritomo after his victory in the Genpei War against the Taira Clan. This marked a significant shift in power from the imperial court in Kyoto to the military government or shogunate based in Kamakura. The bakufu introduced a new era where samurai became the ruling class, and the code of bushido, emphasizing loyalty and honor, began to take shape. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Under the Kamakura shogunate, Japan faced numerous challenges, including internal conflicts and external threats, such as the Mongol invasions in the late 13th century.
