PTOLEMAIKE BASILEIA The Kingdom of Ptolemaic Egypt was a Hellenistic-Egyptian kingdom, created by Ptolemy I Soter after the death of Alexander the Great and the Wars of the Diadochi. A combination of Greek and Egyptian culture, Ptolemaic Egypt would be one of the great Mediterranean powers, having control over the great Nile River. However, with the rise of Rome, Ptolemaic Egypt soon became a client-state of the Roman Republic, then under the Roman Empire with the Emperor as Pharaoh. Despite this, the Egyptian people would still be allowed to follow their ancient traditions and customs, as well as Greek and Roman administration.
