Description
The Mississippi Valley Railroad (Reporting Marks MVRR, MVRZ) was formed in 1948 as the Bettendorf, Rock Island & Clinton Railway, taking over operations of a bankrupt Dovenport, Rock Island & Northwestern Railway with a new name, posessing other lines within the states of Iowa and Illinois to give the region a new railroad. Expansion was immediate, with many lines in the region being abandoned following World War II or before, leaving the MVRR with many lines it could rehabilitate and run. Bankruptcies of other railroads have also allowed for expansion, plus the acquisition of second-hand units. The bankruptcy of the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific (Rock Island) and Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific (Milwaukee Road) in the early and mid 1970s have allowed the railroad to reach locations it previously hadn't been able to, stretching all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana to Duluth, Minnesota, serving millions of people and thousands of customers to ship the products they need.
